Starting this week, businesses will be able to buy ads in the Facebook News Feed to reach people they’ve interacted with.
The ads will then route Facebook users to Facebook Messenger. But the social media site says users shouldn’t worry about being spammed because they can block messages they don’t want to receive.
Vice President and head of Facebook Messenger said:
We believe that the combination of driving people from News Feed into a Messenger experience, and having an additional opportunity to re-engage with sponsored messages is a game changer.
This means that you will not just get random messages from random businesses popping up in your messenger. However, if you have engaged with a business on their page, then they will have the ability to send you a message. For example, if you like a post on Rock 107’s Facebook page about a show, we can then send you a Facebook message to remind you about the show.
