President Donald Trump’s federal budget aims to eliminate the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and that’s expected to get some tough opposition from Michigan’s congressional delegation. U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow told WKZO News she’s going to fight the cut.

“We’re going to have at least a few weeks now, if not months, to tell the story and we need to have everybody — business, farmers, families — speaking up about the importance of the Great Lakes,” Stabenow said.

Stabenow says cutting the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative would open Lake Michigan up to the Asian carp, among other things. She expects a bipartisan effort to push back against the proposal.
