Lawmakers Get Final Revenue Estimates This Week

Final state revenue projections are coming this week in Lansing to allow the House and Senate to finalize the next fiscal year’s budget. State Representative Mary Whiteford of South Haven says there are some “great things” in the budget before lawmakers.

“One of the things that’s so important is that the foundation level for every single student in Michigan is being raised,” says Whiteford. “We’ll have more money to pay our teachers and do these services that children need so badly.”

Whiteford is on the House Appropriations Committee, which does the work in that chamber of making all the budget pieces fit together. The Spring Revenue Estimating Conference is Wednesday at the state Capitol.
