Southwest Michigan farmers are heading into the summer with a sigh of relief. Mark Longstroth, with MSU Extension, tells WSJM News they’re probably out of the woods when it comes to freezes.
“There’s a possibility that after this warm stretch, it will get cool again and they might issues a frost warning, but it’s pretty unlikely that it would be as far south as Berrien County,” Longstroth said. “It would be more for areas around GRand Rapids and TRaverse City and points north.”
Longstroth tells us some crops, like grapes and asparagus, were damaged by a freeze early in May. He notes the worst damage to crops this year happened farther inland and to the north.
