South Haven Public Schools are signing on to the “Be Nice” program that started in Grand Rapids and is making its way around Michigan. Sandy VanderRoest of South Haven Public Schools spoke with WSJM News about the program.

“Be Nice is more of a program for mental health awareness, how to look out for a student that maybe is being bullied, for somebody who has mental health issues and how to be aware of our surroundings and our students in our buildings,” VanderRoest said.

The high school has fully implemented the program as both staff and students have taken the Be Nice Pledge. There are about 30 high schools students that serve on the high school Be Nice Committee.
