Don’t be alarmed this Saturday when the Cook nuclear power plant sounds its alarms for three straight minutes. Cook plant spokesperson Ashlie Guyberson tells WSJM News they’re doing an extra long siren blast at 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Every month on the first Saturday of the month, we test the sirens,” Guyberson said. “It usually lasts about a minute, but in April we typically test the sirens for a full three minutes.”

Guyberson tells us the Cook plant Saturday tests are usually for one minute, but this week it will be three minutes so staff can be sure the sirens can operate for that long. In a real emergency, the sirens would go off for five minutes.
