The ballot initiative for a part-time legislature in Michigan has stalled because of a lack of petition signatures. The petition drive was started last year by Lieutenent Governor Brian Calley, who is now running for governor. Calley has been criticized by some who say the effort was politically motivated. However, campaign organizer Norman Kammeraad told Michigan News Network that’s not the case.

“Brian Calley is the only [politician] in Lansing that has basically put his money where his mouth is on this thingm” Kammeraad said. “We’ve had a lot of people say, ‘He didn’t do it right.’ Well, they didn’t do it at all.”

Kammeraad says they may try the effort again within a year.
