Since your dog is going to be terrified of fireworks today and tomorrow, animal welfare organizations are recommending you keep it in a safe place so it won’t run off. Also, Al-Van Humane Society Director Jennifer Nuerenberg tells WSJM News dog owners should make sure their pooches are chipped.

“If they don’t have their pets microchipped already, that’s the top priority,” Neurenberg said. “Get your pet microchipped. We can do that at Al-Van for only $25. And then make sure your microchipped is registered. Get online, call us if you have any questions. We’d be happy to help you do that because if your pet does go missing, it just guarantee that pet will get back to you.”

Nuerenberg says animal shelters everyone increase occupancy following the Fourth of July due to dogs that took off. Berrien County Animal Control recommends keeping your dog in a kennel while the fireworks are going off.
