The city of St. Joseph will begin applying sealant to some local streets next Thursday. City Engineer Tim Zebell tells WSJM News the sealant application is a new technique being used by the city to extend the life of some pavement. It will make the road smoother and give the road a uniform black appearance.

“We’re kind of excited to get started on this because it’s a way to treat the roads to extend their life and also address the concerns of seal coating that you’ll often see done,” Zebell said.

Zebell say the work starts Thursday, and will wrap up September 19. Additional work will be done in the spring. The city has identified seven miles of asphalt roads that will be treated. The streets affected include Church, Court, Wayne, and Lions Park Drive. You can see a map of the planned work below.
