A lot of us will be on the road over the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holiday season. Triple-A Michigan is projecting nearly 3.6 million in the state will go at least 50 miles from home, which is the highest since the auto club began tracking holiday travel and up by 4% from last year. While the vast majority will drive, AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins says a lot of people will take to the air.
“We’re expecting the most air travelers in 15 years,” says Jenkins. “That means longer lines so make sure you get to the airport about two hours before your scheduled departure to ensure you get through security and get to your flight on time.”
Nationally, 112-million are expected to be traveling, also a 4% jump from 2017. Triple-A says low gas prices and a strong economy are driving the demand for seasonal travel.
