The summer tourism season is underway in southwest Michigan, including the tours of the St. Joseph Lighthouse. Kate Ulrey is the community engagement coordinator with the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center, which coordinates the tours and says they’ve got something new this year.

“We are open from 7 p.m. to sunset now on Wednesdays,” Ulrey tells WSJM. “So if you want to see the sunset from the top of the lighthouse, that’s quite a treat because you can walk all the way in and up.”

The full schedule for tours of the North Pier Lighthouses started on Friday for the year, though there were some offered on Mother’s Day. In addition to the new Wednesday night tours, the structures can be toured from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for anyone under 18. Private tours are also offered for $50, with a $10 additional charge for each person.
