Set to begin on Monday is the next Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Robert Boyce tells WSJM News police all over Michigan will have extra patrols out on the roads looking for impaired drivers. He says the Fourth of July is a holiday when drunk driving incidents traditionally go up.

“A perfect weekend or holiday weekend for us would be not one individual going to jail, and so we’re trying to highly publicize this to get the word out,” Boyce said.

Boyce says if you’re going to be celebrating the Fourth of July, arrange for a ride or stay at home. Last year, there were seven traffic fatalities with at least one crash involving alcohol during the Fourth of July holiday period in Michigan. Boyce says the sheriff’s department and Michigan State Police will be on the lookout for any kind of impaired driving through July 14.
