A fundraiser for the Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition is underway this weekend at The Hard Rock Cafe at the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo. The coalition’s Trent Watford tells WSJM News the chef at the cafe wanted to honor life of Chef Anthony Bourdain during the week of his birthday. Bourdain died by suicide last year.

“They mentioned to us that they were going to participate in this celebration of Anthony Bourdain day, and they wanted to raise funds for suicide prevention and they wanted the funds to go to a local suicide prevention effort,” Watford said.

So, The Hard Rock Cafe is selling special desserts inspired by Anthony Bourdain.

“They created a special three-part dessert that has small desserts that represent different countries since he was quite a traveler.”

The desserts are available for $6 through this Sunday, and the money raised will all go to the Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition. Watford says it works to connect different resources around the community that could be helpful when someone is suicidal. The coalition also holds education and training events, in addition to a vigil for suicide victims each year.
