Congressman Fred Upton has teamed up with several of his Michigan colleagues to send a letter to Governor Gretchen Whitmer asking her to reconsider some line item vetoes she put into the most recent state budget. Upton tells WSJM News Whitmer cut funding to several important programs.

“I know when I was home the last two weeks, I heard a lot from our rural hospitals who are very concerned about cuts to them, our universities in terms of assistance, and grants to low income students that she has eliminated,” Upton said.

Upton says Whitmer also vetoed $15 million in funding to protect residents from PFAS. The $15 million was for a grant program for municipal airports to test and monitor for the chemicals. Upton said Whitmer was to be in Washington on Wednesday, and he was going to speak to her about the funding issues.
