New self-serve kiosks are coming to Secretary of State branch offices throughout Michigan. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says they’ve had a one-month pilot program with the new machines, and they’re more reliable and easier to use than the current kiosks. Along with being in the branch offices, she says they’ll be adding them in other locations like Meijer and Kroger grocery stores around the state. Additionally, new software means you won’t need to have your renewal paperwork with you, and the system can use your license plate number and the last four digits of the Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, to find the information. For the first time, kiosk users will also be able to use cash. By the end of April, Benson says there will be 150 of the kiosks in place.
