Get ready to start seeing the sawdust fly once again, as construction will be among the next parts of the economy in Michigan allowed to get back to work. Governor Whitmer made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

“This Friday, I’ll be signing an executive order that will open both residential and commercial construction by May 7th,” said Whitmer. She was asked about the reason for a six-day delay between the executive order and when the job sites can be open.

“It’s not arbitrary,” said Whitmer. “It’s to make sure the industry has notice so they can start to get prepared for re-engagement on the seventh.”

In her briefing, the governor did not mention when any other sectors of the economy might reopen.
