Coming up on May 9 will be a new United Way of Southwest Michigan Pop Up Giving event.

Pop Up Giving events provide everyone a chance to vote on which of three presenting non-profits should get the lion’s share from a night of fundraising.

The United Way’s Erin Glaske tells us Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Michigan, the Area Agency on Aging, and Meals on Wheels will give presentations and then ticket holders will choose who gets the night’s proceeds.

They’re very successful in that it’s just such an easy thing for people to attend,” Glaske said. “It’s really quick, so the doors open at 5, but the presentations don’t start until 5:45, and then the whole event is wrapped up by 6:30. So, it’s just an easy way for people to hear about the work that United Way and its partners are doing in the community and be a part of that and help see how great our community is when it comes together.”

The second and third place winners will still each get $300 consolation prizes.

The First Congregational Church of St. Joseph has put up $1,500 to get the pot started and proceeds from $20 ticket sales will be added to that.

The Pop Up Giving gathering will be at Silver Harbor Brewing in St. Joseph. You can get tickets to the event at the United Way of Southwest Michigan’s website.
