Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke is not seeking reelection.
Behnke, who has served as sheriff for eight years, says the decision wasn’t easy, but he’s decided it’s time for a new chapter in his life.
Behnke started out with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy in 1987. He was later named supervisor of the dispatch center and later became undersheriff, a position he held for 13 years before running for sheriff.
Behnke says it’s been an honor to have the opportunity to make Cass County a safe place to live. He hasn’t announced any plans for what’s next.
Meanwhile, Cass County Undersheriff Clint Roach has announced he’s now running for sheriff. He’s been undersheriff for eight years and has worked for the Cass County Sheriff’s Department since 1993.
