Fernwood Botanical Garden Director Carol Line is retiring after 17 years at the helm.

Line says her time as director of the attraction in Niles will end in December of this year. She joined Fernwood as executive director in 2007, and Fernwood says her tenure has been characterized by a commitment to excellence, innovation, and community engagement.

Line says she’s a lifelong student of public gardens and how they work. She adds, “It has been a great responsibility-and amazing privilege-to lead this organization,” calling Fernwood a “truly special place.”

During line’s time with the botanical garden, the attraction has developed new gardens, held a high-level lecture series, added the Sims Education Center, and revived Lights at Fernwood, a popular holiday event.

Fernwood Board Chair Tracy Dippo says, “Carol leaves a legacy of inspiration and accomplishment.

The board will now begin a search for her replacement.
