Transgender females would be barred from playing on women’s sports teams under a bill passed by the Michigan House this week.

GOP State Representative Jennifer Wortz spoke in support of the bills.

To let biological males compete against biological females strips away the entire reason Title IX was enacted, to give girls and women an equal opportunity to compete in athletics and be protected from sexual harassment,” Wortz said.

The House voted 58-46 to pass the legislation, which would be based on the child’s gender at birth.

Democratic state Representative Natalie Price opposed the legislation, saying it would be harmful to trans kids.

The bills now go to the State Senate.
